This story contains spoilers from season 2 of Yellowstone.

Yellowstone fans, we’re officially freaking out. It’s still a few months before season 5 premieres on November 13th, but we may have just gotten a sneak peek into one more character that could be making a triumphant return to the small screen.

Remember Malcolm Beck (Neal McDonough)? If fans can go all the way back to season 2, then they may recall the businessman being a bit shady when John Dutton (Kevin Costner) refused to go along with his plan to shut down Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) building a casino. He caused even more disruption for the Duttons when he hired a militia to kidnap Kayce’s (Luke Grimes) son and assault Beth (Kelly Reilly) as a means of revenge. But we all assumed that Malcolm died when John mortally wounds him in a standoff, right? Well, not exactly, and it looks like we may see the rise of Malcom once again.

Neal himself recently spoke out about the potential return to Yellowstone, telling TV Line that there may be more to the story than fans initially thought of back in season 2.

“Did I die? Did I? I’m not so sure about that,” Neal told the outlet. “We have talked about the fact we didn’t actually see Malcolm Beck’s eyes close. There is always that possibility.”

Should Neal return to the Paramount Network series, would anybody really be surprised? Yellowstone does like to keep fans on their toes by creating a revolving door of villains, some of which included actors Danny Huston, Josh Holloway and Wes Bentley. So in truth, it’s not that far-fetched to see Malcolm come back more menacingly than before.

But here’s where we’re a little bit confused. With the announcement of recent cast changes (including seeing Josh Lucas play young John Dutton once more), it’s hard to tell if Neal will actually reappear or he’s just adding fuel to the fire. But showrunner Taylor Sheridan is the mastermind behind the show, and it’s entirely plausible that he’s prepping fans for the grand reveal we never truly saw coming.

No matter the case, the Dutton family is back — and we’re in for quite a ride.
