  • February 3, 2023

Tom Brady, fellow NFL alum Michael Strahan has a message for you post-retirement.

On February 1, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback announced that he planned to hang up his cleats nearly one year after coming out of retirement to play in the 2022-2023 NFL season. Similar to when he rejoined the Florida-based team back in March 2022, Tom took to Twitter to share his career news and express his appreciation.

“I’m retiring for good … I really thank you guys so much,” he said in a short video. “To every single one of you for supporting me. My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors … I could go on forever. There’s too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”

Amid Tom’s news quickly going viral on social media, Good Morning America co-anchor and former football player Michael took a second to share a message with him through the TV screen. As he told co-hosts Lara Spencer and George Stephanopoulos, he understood what it meant to leave football.

“Being a good friend of his, I know it’s not an easy decision,” Michael said in a clip posted to Instagram the same day. “But I know one thing: he’s gonna excel in life after football just as much as he excelled life with football. So, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for Tom.”

What’s more, the former New York Giants defensive lineman took the opportunity to give him a piece of advice: “Congratulations, my friend. Don’t get 20 jobs like me! Enjoy yourself a little bit more.”

As folks may know, Michael played football for 15 seasons and won Super Bowl XLII in 2008 with the Giants. He left the sport in 2007 and quickly dove into a second career as a TV personality. The NFL Hall of Famer’s television credits include Fox NFL Sunday, Live With Kelly and Michael and the game show The $100,000 Pyramid.

Now, what will the next chapter of Tom’s career look like? There are many possibilities but he may consider taking it slow like Michael advised … or not. We’ll just have to wait and see!
