Lately, the most asked question from fans of the Pearson family has been, when will This Is Us be back on NBC? It won’t be too long now. The Big Three and the rest of the crew will return with a new season 6 episode next Tuesday night. But in the meantime, This Is Us creator and showrunner Dan Fogelman has started to share details about when the show will officially end.
On February 11, Dan was joined by the This Is Us main cast members for NBC’s Scripted Press Day, including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson and Jon Huertas. Dan took this opportunity to announce that the This Is Us season 6 finale episode will air on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
“It’s gonna deliver. It’s truly, truly going to deliver,” Milo said about the This Is Us series finale. Dan also revealed season 6 will dive deeper into the Pearson family’s future. “Towards the end of the season, it’s fair to say we’ll live there more,” he said in reference to Kate’s second wedding, Rebecca’s death in the house Kevin built her and the “deeper future” of Jack Jr.

Since This Is Us premiered on NBC in September 2016, each season has been comprised of 18 episodes with the exception of last year’s installment, which had 16 episodes (due to the coronavirus pandemic impacting TV production in Hollywood). This Is Us season 6 will have a total of 18 episodes. The sixth episode, titled “Our Little Island Girl: Part Two,” will air on February 22.
This schedule might mean that NBC executives are trying to stay true to their word to give This Is Us fans “as close to an uninterrupted run” as possible. Speaking with Deadline, NBC teased that the drama will have a “big send-off” and “it’s going to be fantastic.”

For folks who have already started to do the math, there are 14 weeks between February 22 and May 24, and there are 12 episodes left. Could this mean that there will be extra episodes we don’t know about or a scheduled break for spring holidays like Easter? We’re not sure, but we’ll be on the lookout for more information.
As for what lies beyond the end of This Is Us, Dan got candid about bringing the cast together again for a potential movie. Though he didn’t give a resounding “yes” like Justin and Sterling did back in December, he also didn’t completely shut it down.
“I say no to nothing,” Dan said, according to People. “When I want to do something again for This Is Us with these guys, I suspect they’re gonna all be very busy and winning awards, Emmys and Oscars and all this stuff. But sure, if we can figure out a movie down the road, I’d love to get back together with these guys and do it.”
He continued: “I don’t know what that would be. By the end of this season, I think we’ll have told the complete story so I’m not sure. If you were doing a movie, it’s like what would’ve happened if Jack survived the fire or something?”
