Season 22 of The Voice is quickly coming to a close and eliminations keep getting tougher and tougher. Team Gwen contestant Kique Gomez had a particularly difficult experience with this, and he’s now speaking out about it.

During the most recent live episodes, viewers learned that Kique would not be singing live alongside his fellow cast mates. The decision came after he tested positive for COVID-19, leaving him to compete while in quarantine. As a workaround, the NBC show instead aired two pre-taped performances for coaches Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Camila Cabello and John Legend to judge. While his rendition of The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name” received high praise, it unfortunately wasn’t enough to keep him from being eliminated from the competition.

Shortly after the results aired on Tuesday night, Kique took to Instagram to reflect on his time as a member of Team Gwen. “Hey y’all. As you guys might’ve just seen … I’m going home,” he said in a video. “Unfortunately, that’s just how the show works, and everybody has to go home at some point. But, at the end of the day, I’m happy.”

He continued: “I did two performances that I’m super happy with and that I’m proud of. That’s the note that I want to go out on. This entire process has been so mentally, physically and emotionally draining. But it’s just been the best of all that … I’m obviously not happy to leave the competition, but I’m happy to go home.”

Kique wasn’t the only one sad to be leaving The Voice. At the same time his video went live on social media, Gwen shared heartwarming thoughts about her former team member on Twitter. “Kiqueeeeee I can’t even begin to describe how proud I am of [you] superstar !!!” she wrote. “[You’re] always gonna be #TeamGwen in my book.”

Gwen later dropped by his Instagram comments. “Love u!!!!!!! thank u letting me be your coach!! 😘,” she added.

Like his mentor, Kique’s fans also quickly swarmed his social media expressing their support. “You were my favorite voice contestant ever on the show! So incredibly talented can’t wait to see what you do next 💛✨,” one person commented on Instagram. “Super proud of you!! You smashed it!! So much ahead ✨✨❤️❤️,” a different fan wrote. “Best voice i have ever heard on the voice, no joke. Love you so much keep producing music! you are outstanding,” another added.

So, will we ever see Kique on The Voice stage again? It’s definitely possible as the finale approaches. Until we hear more, we’ll keep on rooting for him to feel better soon and see what’s comes after his TV debut.
