The Voice coaches Camila Cabello and Blake Shelton don’t just leave their banter for the cameras — they like to bring the jokes offstage too.
As season 22 of the hit NBC series continues to air new episodes, fans have become accustomed to seeing the duo tease one another in between their team members’ performances. But when a recent TikTok video went viral on the platform, fans saw a behind-the-scenes moment of Blake poking fun at Camila’s music knowledge.
“People have given me crap over the years for not knowing certain songs,” he says in the short clip. “But Camila is next level.”
Case in point: When Blake begins to grill Camila on her knowledge of famous rock bands, she sheepishly admits she knows very little about the genre. She later reveals she only knows one song by Metallica and Van Halen, while she’s familiar with a few more from Guns N’ Roses.
While some viewers may be surprised by Camila’s music knowledge (she has been in the music industry since she tried out for The X Factor in 2012), she does make some valid points later on in the clip.
“One, I was not born in America,” she justifies, referencing her Cuban heritage. “And how many songs from the past 30 years do you know, Blake? So calm down, abuelo.”
Camila’s definitely not wrong here, as all the artists Blake asked her about had all-time career highs in the 1980s. But given the fact Blake has been on The Voice since its inception in 2011, folks know he’s clearly more versed in music than he lets on.
Although it will be hard to say goodbye to Blake’s antics once he leaves The Voice after season 23, at least we have a few more weeks to see him and Camila joke around for the cameras. And who knows? Maybe we’ll get to see how much music the two actually are familiar with as the competition heats up.
