On February 3, Jennifer joined Hoda and fellow Today cohost Savannah Guthrie to discuss Marry Me, her latest film with Owen Wilson and its accompanying album of the same name. J.Lo revealed that Marry Me was “as close” as she has ever gotten to a project reflecting her own life. Unsurprisingly, Jennifer’s boyfriend, actor Ben Affleck, was brought up and she was coy about their relationship.
While Hoda wasn’t the one to mention it this time — like she did last summer when Bennifer wasn’t yet confirmed — she was still intrigued about what J.Lo had to say about it. To celebrate her latest work, Hoda then shared Jennifer’s People magazine cover and she made sure to keep the focus on her … or at least, tried to.

“You look beautiful on People. Let me just block out this corner,” Hoda said. “You look really great.” (Watch above at 6:09!) In case you’re wondering, on the top right of the magazine was a photo of Hoda alongside the headline: “Inside’s Hoda’s Surprise Split.”
“Why are you trying to block out the corner?” Jennifer said. “You don’t want to talk about your personal stuff? Is that what it is, Hoda?”
“Touché, touché!” Hoda said. “They call that mutually assured destruction,” Savannah quipped.
As Today fans know, days before this interview, Hoda announced on January 31 that she and Joel Schiffman had called off their engagement. After dating for six years, Joel proposed to Hoda in November 2019. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, their wedding was postponed twice and in December, viewers started asking why she wasn’t wearing her engagement ring anymore. Following the end of their eight-year relationship, Hoda shared that she and Joel will continue to coparent their two daughters Haley Joy and Hope Catherine.
Jennifer and Hoda’s fans loved seeing their exchange and immediately took to social media to share their thoughts. Many enjoyed watching Jennifer lovingly joke around with Hoda about her relationship. “I loved how Jennifer Lopez threw it back at her friend, Hoda, about not wanting to discuss her personal life. It was great,” one person wrote on YouTube. Another viewer added, “Hoda and Jen always have great interviews because they’re real friends. Two lovely women. 🥰.”
